Pottery Weekend - Handbuilding - 7th & 8th March 2026

£240.00

Indulge in a creative and relaxing weekend with Scarab Pots, at The Chocolate Quarter in Keynsham, with our Pottery Weekend.

I’m excited about this one!

We’re going to make a large coil pot, in a rustic, African style. I will teach you how to build and refine a large jar / plant pot / vase / sculptural pot. We will then decorate our pots using ancient and traditional methods of slip inlay, carving and /or the addition of texture and oxides to the surface. You’ll be able to choose between a beautiful dark ruby red clay, or a buff-coloured, rough-textured (grogged) clay for your pot. These pots will not be glazed. Instead, we will burnish the surface of the clay to seal it and achieve a soft, smooth sheen finish. This is how pots were sealed before glaze was invented and is still used in many parts of the world.

This is a lovely activity to do with a family member or friend - perhaps even someone visiting for the weekend. It's also a nice way to meet new people in a safe and friendly environment.

The sessions will run 10.00am until 5.00pm on both Saturday and Sunday. There will be an hour's break for lunch and a simple bread and cheese and homemade (vegetarian) soup will be included. Please get in touch if you have particular dietary requirements.

Your finished pot will be left to dry out for a couple of weeks and then fired twice (with or without the addition of a clear glaze). It will be ready for collection around a month after the weekend.

This will be a unique item that you can cherish and marvel at for years to come!
