Pottery Weekend - Wheel Throwing - 27th & 28th September 2025

£240.00
sold out

Indulge in a creative and relaxing weekend with Scarab Pots, at The Chocolate Quarter in Keynsham, with our Pottery Weekend.

There are 2 options for this weekend: handbuilding or wheel throwing. This booking is for the WHEEL THROWING option. The wheel throwing course is with the lovely Ellie Bartlett, in our welcoming, fully accessible studio.

We will be learning the fundamentals of wheel throwing:

- preparing and weighing out the clay

- centering the clay on the potter's wheel

- opening up the clay

- pulling up the walls of the pot

- finessing the shape of your pot

You will also learn how to trim your pots when they have dried a little, to neaten them up and refine the shape and the base. You might also add handles or lugs at this stage.

The focus of the weekend is to create a set of tapas / snack dishes. These will be really useful bowls of differing sizes, which are also oven, dishwasher and microwave proof, for hot or cold snacks.

You'll also learn surface decoration techniques to make your pottery truly unique.

This is a lovely activity to do with a family member or friend - perhaps even someone visiting for the weekend. It's also a nice way to meet new people in a safe and friendly environment.

The sessions will run 9.30am until 5.30pm on both Saturday and Sunday. There will be an hour's break for lunch and a simple bread and cheese and homemade (vegetarian) soup will be included. Please get in touch if you have particular dietary requirements.

You will make and decorate your tapas dishes over the weekend. Your pieces will then be left to dry out, be bisque fired, then glazed and fired again. You'll be able to pick up your finished set from the studio a few weeks later.

If you think handbuilding might be more your cup of tea, this will be happening in the same studio this weekend, so check out the other bookings! If you're coming with someone, you don't have to choose the same option.
