6 Week Course starting Tues 3/11/26 6.30-8.30pm

£190.00

Unleash your creativity with our friendly and welcoming pottery classes in our accessible studio within The Chocolate Quarter, in Keynsham.

This course is suitable for beginners or for those with some experience who still prefer a more supported course.

The course is structured to give you a basic grounding in handbuilding techniques.

Week 1: slab building - you will learn the key techniques for using slabs / sheets of clay to shape into items like mugs, plates, bowls, etc. You will choose one of these items to make.

Week 2: slab building - you will either finish your pot from week 1 or make another slab built pot using the skills you have learned.

Week 3: coiling - you will learn the basic skills to build a pot using coils of clay and make a vase, fruit bowl or plant pot.

Week 4: coiling - you will either finish your coil pot from week 3 or make something different, using the skills that you have learned.

Week 5: pinching - you will learn how pinch pots can be beautiful in their own right, or combined with slab / coiling techniques to make lovely cups, bowls and vases, or as the foundation for little sculptures.

Alongside the making in weeks 1-5, you will be taught surface decoration techniques such as slip and sgraffito, carving and sprigging to create beautiful one-off designs on your work, whichever technique you use!

Week 6: glazing - you will glaze all your pots, choosing from our lovely range of dipping glazes.

Your finished pots will be ready for you to collect and keep, approximately 1-2 weeks after finishing the course.

Join us and experience the joy of working with clay in a relaxing and supportive environment.

The price includes all the materials that you will use on the course, as well as the two firings that your pieces will undergo in the kiln.

There are other courses available if you’d prefer to learn throwing on the potter’s wheel, or if you’ve had some pottery experience and would prefer to be a bit more ‘freestyle’ in your classes.
