My name is Abigail and I am Scarab Pots. I live in Bristol, UK.
I make beautiful pots for your home and I run taster sessions and longer courses from my studio in Keynsham.
I was a teacher for more than 20 years and I love working with people, helping them to learn new things and push them out of their comfort zones. I believe that we grow through learning, trying and failing, and then trying again. I am a self-taught potter and I still get better every day (apart from the days that I don't and nothing goes right!). Practice makes progress.
Pottery is such a mindful, relaxing activity, and I am so lucky that I get to make pots every day! I believe that pottery - whether this is merely the sensory experience of playing with clay, or the creative expression and satisfaction of crafting a beautiful pot - is good for you. It's good for the mind, good for the body and good for the soul.
I started my business in April 2022, so I'm still learning and still learning what Scarab Pots might become.
Why the scarab?
All my pots are stamped on the bottom with a scarab beetle.
Scarab beetles have shells that are multi-tonal and iridescent and incredibly beautiful. I love glazes like that - glazes where you can't really describe what colour it is in one word.
In Ancient Egypt, scarabs were worshipped as symbols of renewal, good fortune and hope - and who wouldn't want that for their new business?
Also, well, beetles are really cool!
